Palm Beach Lighthouse Walk Marks Milestone For Barrenjoey High Students

Year 7 students at Barrenjoey High School have begun their secondary schooling with the annual Palm Beach lighthouse walk, continuing a long-standing school tradition.

Annual Walk At Palm Beach

A total of 147 Year 7 students completed the walk on Friday 13 February, accompanied by 40 Year 10 Peer Support leaders.

The climb to the lighthouse at Palm Beach serves as a symbolic starting point for students entering secondary school. At the summit, the cohort gathered for a group photograph overlooking Pittwater and the Northern Beaches.

The walk forms part of an established tradition that connects the beginning and end of students’ time at the school.

Peer Support And Cohort Connection

During the day, Year 10 leaders guided peer support activities aimed at helping the new cohort build friendships and confidence while encouraging teamwork.

School updates about the program have also noted that students take part in group activities at Palm Beach, including shared downtime following the walk. The initiative is designed to strengthen connections early in their high school experience.

A Full-Circle Tradition

The Palm Beach lighthouse walk is intended as a bookend milestone. Students are expected to return to complete the walk again in their final week of Year 12, marking the conclusion of their secondary education.

The repeated climb provides continuity across year levels, linking the first stage of secondary school with its final chapter. The tradition has been observed across multiple cohorts, reinforcing its place within the school calendar.
